Assignment 6: Global Trends (Programming, Streaming, Online, Social, or Gaming)

Streaming media has quickly become the center of numerous global trends that dominate our "trending" topics. There are several different streaming media services, and streaming music has climbed up the ranks in global trends for streaming services.

According to Forbes.com, streaming (music) has quickly become "the official lifeline" of the United States music industry. This statement reaches outside of the USA and extends to the rest of the world as well. Music streaming services have obviously become a prominent staple of the music industry and it is interesting to see how different platforms provide content in unique ways.

Spotify is a Swedish "audio streaming and media services provider" founded in 2006. Today, Spotify is known as the most popular music streaming service in the world, representing 31% of the market (157.17 million subscribers).

Maintaining a dominant platform on a global scale is no easy task, especially with countless competitors offering similar services. What makes Spotify different and ahead of the game?

One of the most obvious reasons for Spotify's success is the large selection available on the platform. Spotify has more than 35 million songs available to listen to, giving listeners a great chance to hear their favorite music featured. (unless their favorite song happens to be from the Muppets Treasure Island Soundtrack).

On top of the variety in music selection, Spotify generally has the best app experience, making it easy for global use. Spotify includes personalized playlists, suggestions, and a 'Spotify Wrapped'  of your favorite music, unique to each listener.

Each Spotify Wrapped will give a global analysis as well as a personal one. Listeners can discover the top artists, songs, and albums of the year in each country Spotify is available. Spotify Wrapped will also give worldwide statistics, to share what is most popular in the world as a whole.

The 2021 Spotify Wrapped shared the most artists, albums, and songs streamed globally.

The top artists of 2021 around the world were: Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, BTS, Drake, and Justin Bieber.

The most streamed albums globally in 2021 on Spotify were:
Sour (Olivia Rodrigo), Future Nostalgia (Dua Lipa), Justice (Justin Bieber), = (Ed Sheeran).

These unique lists vary based on each country Spotify is available.

Seeing the cultural differences and different global trends of streaming music is a unique feature of Spotify that provides to its listeners.

Spotify also offers special offers and deals to premium users. Each package offered gives an affordable option to make the Spotify experience even more enjoyable.

Spotify offers deals to students, families, individuals, and a duo package.  Each of these packages allows listeners to enjoy Spotify without ads, and each offer is available in the United States and across the globe.

Spotify is a great demonstration of the fast growth of streaming trends. In 2017, Spotify reached 61 counties in the world and today, Spotify is available in an astounding 178 countries (full list).

The inclusion of countries across the world allows international artists to expand their audience as well. When Spotify expanded into Russia, Croatia, and Ukraine, Spotify opened the door to 250 million news listeners
